SMS Alumnae Association Public Speaking Competition

It is a valued tradition at St Margaret’s to conclude the school year with our Alumnae Association Public Speaking Competition. This competition showcases the excellent speaking skills of representatives from Year 7 to 9 as they engage, entertain and inspire their peers. All girls in Year 7 to 9 participate in a class level competition and vote for a representative from their class to move on to the final round of the competition. In this competition, students deliver both prepared and impromptu speeches; a learning experience that fosters effective communication skills, which are essential enterprise skills for 21st century learners. This event was hosted by our 2017 School Captains, Jessica Bourke and Ashleigh Tsui-Po, who further modelled to younger students the importance of working to develop presentation skills. Recently graduated students and A Grade Debating team members, Georgia Walton-Briggs, Arashdeep Kaur Dhaliwal and Laura Johnson, returned to the school to perform the duties of judges and prizes were awarded by Alumnae Bianca Giles. Congratulations to our competition winners: Tarushi Rajapaksa (Year 7), Priya Walker (Year 8) and Natasha Pearson (Year 9).
