Round 5 DAV Debating

The St Margaret’s Debating team experienced an exciting Round 5 of DAV Debating to conclude the season. Round 5 was ‘power-paired’ with the draw pairing teams based on their position on the ladder. With three of our teams sitting at the top of the ladder, the girls were determined to give their opposing teams a strong challenge. The evening resulted in wins for the A Grade team and the Year 8 D Grade team. Congratulations must go to those girls who were awarded Best Speaker for their debates: Pranjal Pokhalekar (Year 10), Georgia Asling (Year 9) and Devindi Ambawatta (Year 8). The girls have certainly enjoyed the challenges of public speaking, including communicating in a clear manner, developing logical arguments and rebuttals, using language persuasively, thinking on their feet and working collaboratively with their team. Our next focus will be the Junior Secondary Program that provides training for the Year 7 girls in preparation for their involvement in DAV Debating in 2018. Special thanks for our success in the DAV Debating competition must go to our wonderful Debating Captain, Tracy Bu, and the Year 12 girls who have supported her in this role.
