Head of Campus Update – 23 February 2017

We’ve had a positive and calm start to the new school year and it’s been a pleasure to welcome our recently appointed Principal, Ms Annette Rome and new students and their families to our wonderful Junior School.

It’s been a busy start but the year promises to be one filled with excellent learning opportunities and we encourage all students and teachers to embrace the challenges that come with new experiences.  I hope that all parents have met with their child’s class teacher to share  information related to the learning and well being of their son or daughter. These conversations also help to better understand day to day operations and expectations within the relevant year levels. Building relationships is an integral part of successful teaching and learning and the teachers are enjoying getting to know each of their students and understanding their passions/concerns and how they learn.

The year commenced with the Year 5 camp at Flinders and the Year 6 camp to Canberra. The weather was warm but perfect for the Year 5 Golden Valley camp in Flinders. A range of outdoor activities including archery and surfing were popular with everyone and it certainly provided  valuable  and entertaining opportunities for the students to gel as a class at the beginning of a new school year. The Year 6 students took in the sights of our national capital and gained first hand experience about how our parliament is structured and operates.

Work is continuing in the Junior School with consultant Michael Ymer, whose enthusiasm and expertise in maths is exciting.  He is working closely with teachers with a focus on hands on activities to engage and motivate students across all year levels resulting in greater interest and proficiency in maths. It’s a pleasure to have Michael at our school as we admire and respect his professionalism, energy and passion.

Please remember to check your child’s weekly class bulletin to keep up to date what is happening in the Junior School and in the classrooms. It provides friendly reminders and helps to plan ahead by knowing what is coming up. Personally, it’s great to be back in the Junior School so please remember to contact me or call in for a chat if you have any concerns or queries relevant to Junior School or your child.
