Head of Campus update – 21 April 2016

A warm welcome back to Term 2. I trust that you all had a wonderful Easter and relaxing break. The boys have certainly hit the ground running, with a very busy term full of academic, cultural and sporting activities.

On behalf of the school I would like to applaud Srinaama Adikari, Year 8 for achieving third place in the Senior Division of the 2016 Round 3 Spellmasters Competition. On Sunday April 17, Srinaama won the third place prize and earned a place in the Senior Grand Final to be held at the end of the year. This is an outstanding achievement and we wish him all the best in the Grand Final!

On Friday 22 April, Berwick Grammar will commemorate and remember those who have fought and served in all wars and conflicts at our Anzac Service. The Anzacs have become part of the legend of what is Australia. As well as remembering those who have served, we can also remember those who stayed behind: families, friends and communities who suffered the loss of those who would never return, and provided sanctuary to those who did.

Students from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School have been invited and will participate in the Berwick Anzac Day march from Berwick RSL Club to the Cenotaph in Berwick High Street followed by the Anzac Service. Should you and your son wish to participate in the march, could you be at the Berwick RSL Club, 17 Langmore Lane, Berwick at 10.15 am. Boys are required to wear full winter uniform.

Year 5 to 9 Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences (PTS) are held on Thursday 21 April (A-K) and Thursday 28 April (L-Z). PTS is an important part of your son’s education as it provides you and your son the opportunity to sit and discuss his progress and performance with his relevant subject teachers. Please make the time to attend this event.

The professional learning of our staff is a high priority in ensuring we meet the needs of our boys. Ms Glenda Tyler, recently ran a professional learning session where we focussed on how to maximise the learning opportunities for every student in our school. Our Learning Enhancement Program aims to ensure that we are addressing all of the individual learning needs and styles of the students in our classes. Information provided included ideas and techniques to differentiate programs and teaching so that every student is given the best possible opportunity to achieve and strategies to support specific learning difficulties.

As we continue to build a culture of academic achievement and excellence our staff endeavour to provide as much support and assistance to our boys in a myriad of subject areas. In terms of senior classes, many have scheduled times with their teacher during the course of the day.
