A successful weekend at the Wonthaggi HPV Grand Prix

Our Junior Squad members, comprising of riders in Years 4-6, competed in a 16 hour race. They started at 12.00 pm Saturday and rode until 10.00 pm Saturday night, at which time a mandatory rest break occurred until 6.00 am Sunday morning, with riders back on the track for 6 hours until the chequered flag was waved at 12.00 pm.

The 14 students who participated in the event did so with wonderful enthusiasm. Riding Shooting Star in their first event, Lucas Algie, Lincoln Clamp, James Pursell and Austin Schultz rode extremely well. There was lots of determination and excitement whilst they were out on the track and they also enjoyed riding in the night. Joining them were Audrey Pritchard and Mikayla Delardes, who provided great support and insight to our new students and also led by example by riding some excellent stints.

Cassi was made up of Amber Flanders, Emily Ford, Sebastian Gosling, Mariska Matin, Lauren Nelson, Jonte Padula and Sarah Schreurs. This team exceeded expectations, riding with a tenacity that saw all riders improving their times during each stint.

In a very competitive field, competing against some teams that had Year 7 students, Cassi completed the event with a category result of fifth and Shooting Star finished fourteenth.

Thanks to the support of all the students and their families who participated in the event.
