A group of Year 11 and 12 SMS and BGS French students headed up to Maison de St Claire, 45 minutes from Byron Bay, to participate in a week long French immersion camp run by Gilles Berger, a very experienced native French teacher. The aim was to improve the students’ listening, speaking and writing skills by involving themselves completely in French activities ranging from lessons every morning to tasting French regional cuisine or playing games such as Pétanque and every night watching French films. The students realised how tiring this was, so mid-week they were given the opportunity to spend a few hours relaxing in Byron Bay and visit the famous lighthouse, from where they managed to see in the distance 2 whales. In all a very productive and enjoyable French camp.
