Visual Communication Design

Visual Communication Design examines the way in which visual language is used to convey ideas, information and messages in the fields of communication, environmental and industrial design. Students undertaking Unit 3 and Unit 4 of the subject typically nominate two of the three design fields as the focus for their study and work to develop their ideas over the course of the school year.

Students begin by developing a formal design brief to guide their project, then work through stages of a design process to research, develop and refine their ideas. Two distinct final presentations are submitted along with a folio documenting the development of their designs. Year 12 student Cullen O’Brien recently submitted his major assessment task, which included visual branding and a restaurant concept for Genista Wines, a small vineyard located in the Barossa Valley. Deciding to work with a real-world client offered Cullen the opportunity to present his concept designs to the client and receive feedback in order to guide the refinement of his ideas.
