Victorian Schools Mountain Bike Championship – Rounds 2 and 3

Our students in the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) & Cycling Squad have been actively involved in the Victorian Schools Mountain Bike Championship over the last month.

Round 2 was held at Lysterfield at the end of July and the squad had 14 riders compete. The squad came away with 6 medals (3 gold and 3 bronze) and 9 placings in the top 50% of the categories entered! Representing the Junior School, Stella Delardes (Year 5) rode a great race to finish in 3rd place and take home a bronze medal. In a highly competitive field with 45 entries, James McCurdy (Year 5) rode a challenging race to finish in 14th position.

Round 3 of the Series was held at the You Yangs last Sunday. SMS/BGS had 12 students compete in the event under beautiful blue skies.

Our riders rode fast on the flowing mountain bike course and came away with 7 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and a bronze)

Stella Delardes continued her run of podium placings, this time riding hard to claim a silver medal. Tully Webb had a great start to his race, however, was unable to keep the pace of the leading pack and finished in 19th place.

Our squad’s attention now turns to the Road Cycling events, which start this Friday at Casey Fields. Stella Delardes, James McCurdy, Sarah O’Connor, Tully Webb, Olivia Ford and Teleigha Hall will be representing the Junior School in this event. Good luck!
