The Agatha Christie Revival

Recently, St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School Libraries received a wonderful donation of more than 20 Agatha Christie hardback books from generous parent.

These classical novels were promoted to the Library reading classes with huge success and the Library staff have barely been able to keep them on the shelves, as the good old-fashioned murder mystery genre proves it is still as popular as ever.

At SMS, it has been the detective work of one Miss Marple, that has won the appeal of the students, and despite the stories’ age and settings, the girls have been clamoring for another story about the exploits of the famous amateur sleuth. The added knowledge that the books will earn them bonus points for the Year 7-8 VPRC Reading Competition to win a donut lunch, has also stirred their enthusiasm.

At BGS, the boys have taken to following the exploits of one famous Belgian detective (Hercule Poirot) with much gusto, as these books are a great way for students to immerse themselves in the D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) program, and also add books to their V.P.R.C (Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge) accounts.

Both libraries are indebted for the generous donation as it provides the opportunity for our students to discover the thought-provoking mind of Agatha Christie.
