TEDX Casey – Matthew Kent

When Casey Council decided to run a TEDx event, youth speakers were invited to apply to be a part of a special section of the event called ‘Ideas from the Next Generation’.  After a rigorous selection process, School Captain and Plain English Speaking Award veteran Matthew Kent was selected.

Matthew is a capable and confident speaker who drew on the Growing Good Men Project at Berwick Grammar School for his speech, ‘Good Man vs Real Man’ looking at masculine identities and the reasons behind male suicide rates.

Matthew was a stand-out speaker who began with a personal story and used this to weave in his serious commentary on the standards to which we judge men’s behavior today, and the limitations we place upon them.  He teased out ideas about masculinity, stereotypes and held the audience in the palm of his hand.  He also committed himself to further work in this area in the future, pledging to study psychology with a focus on young men in the future.

Congratulations Matthew on your outstanding presentation.  We look forward to seeing your work in this field in the future.
