Student Led Conferences

There was such a buzz around the Junior School last week as our children from ELC through to Year 6 all proudly shared their individual learning journey with their parents at our Student Led Conferences. The Primary Years Program (PYP) advocates active student engagement in the learning process and we believe these conferences further promote the development of self-motivated learners who are capable of reflecting critically and constructively on their learning (relative to their age/year level).

During the conferences our young learners confidently talked about and reflected on their personal learning goals, skill development across various curriculum areas and self-management strategies that help them work and learn effectively. They also involved their parents in various games and activities that are used within the classroom to develop and extend understanding in specific subjects.

As PYP educators we believe in the importance and impact of self-efficacy and learner agency. Our Student Led Conferences provide an authentic opportunity for these valuable elements to be applied and demonstrated with students having choice, voice and ownership of the process, together with the support of their teachers.
