State Cricket Successes

Two Berwick Grammar School students have recently experienced significant successes at the state level.

Ashley Chandrasinghe and Chansika Kapukotuwa, both in Year 11, played in the Under 16 State Championships in their regional team, the Southern Pioneers, representing Metropolitan Outer South.  Their team dominated preliminary rounds of the 16-team tournament with both players excelling at times. Ashley top scored on several occasions with scores of 72 and 59 not out against Metropolitan North West and Gippsland Pride respectively. Chansika, a talented leg spin bowler, took several crucial wickets throughout the tournament and returned the amazing figures of 6 wickets for 8 runs off his 10 overs in the Quarter Final against the Metropolitan North West team.

Following their team’s success Chansika has been selected by Cricket Victoria to participate in an intensive development program, training twice a week at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with specialist coaches.

Ashley has again been selected to represent Victoria in the Under 17 National Championships taking place in Queensland in early October. This is the third consecutive Victorian Cricket Team Ashley has been selected for and we wish him luck as he endeavours to emulate his success from two years ago when the Under 15 Victorian Team won the National Championship.
