Sporting Opportunities

Term 2 is extremely busy with two SIS Carnivals, one BGS Carnival and five weekly sports running across the ten week term.

Berwick Grammar School made a great start to the term with a very successful trip to MSAC in Albert Park for the SIS Swim Carnival. Both the Under 13 and Under 17 teams won their age group securing two pennants for the school and we won the overall boys aggregate shield which was a fantastic achievement. This victory brings with it the opportunity to progress to the A Division for the 2017 SIS Swim Carnival which is a challenge that greatly excites all involved in the program.

On Wednesday 20 April the BGS House Cross Country Carnival was run on campus. This is an event which tests the endurance and resilience of all our students, with the courses ranging from 2km to 4km depending on age with every student striving for their personal best to help their House get closer to victory.

SIS weekly sport also re-commences during the second week of term two. Year 7 and 8 students will have the chance to compete in Basketball, AFL and Table Tennis, whilst we will be fielding Year 9 and 10 teams in Basketball and AFL. A selection of our footballers from Year 9 to 12 will also get a chance to participate in a practice match against St Phillip’s College from Alice Springs during week three. This is a match which takes place once a year as part of the touring school’s annual football trip to Melbourne.

We hope the success from the Swim Carnival continues into the Cross Country Carnivals and weekly sports and that all students involved get great enjoyment out of representing BGS on the sporting field this term.
