Social Service update

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Year 12 Social Service Team held an Empowering Women Forum on Monday 20 March for SMS Year 11 and 12 Senior girls. The forum encouraged the girls to think about what being female means to them. During the presentation, five influential female figures were represented by St Margaret’s girls and their numerous achievements read out, with the purpose of reminding our girls of their power to make a difference in their own lives. The theme for the presentation was SMS Women are the Women of Tomorrow and the presentation concluded with the acknowledgement that being a woman is powerful and called on the girls “to go out and embrace it”.

SMS is part of a growing movement on girls education. As global citizens, we raised awareness of the sixty million girls around the world that are going without an education simply because they are girls. To start the year, the 2017 Social Service team organised an obstacle course for students to complete in their school dresses, as part of the Do It In A Dress awareness campaign.

Thank you to all the girls for getting involved. The combined efforts and willingness to have a go was uplifting and enjoyable, bringing our school together. We hope to have raised awareness of the importance of girls’ education for all around the world.

Individually we are one drop, but together we are an ocean.
