Sailing the The Whitsundays

The Whitsundays, in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, is home to our Year 9 BGS boys this week as they explore this breathtaking region on-board the tall ship Solway Lass and maxi yacht The Boomerang.

The Year 9 BGS Endeavour program provides the boys with a fantastic hand-on sailing experience. Many highlights to date have included snorkelling and scuba diving with a Marine Biologist, who has also educated the students about all things Great Barrier Reef.

The boys have also been learning how to sail both the Solway Lass and The Boomerang, they have hiked to Whitsunday Peak and performed a community service beach clean-up on Whitehaven Beach. They are now preparing for their night voyage in which they will sail the vessels under the watchful eyes of the crew.

The journey continues until the end of the week when the student’s will return home with many amazing stories from this very memorable experience.
