Principal’s Report, Ms Carole Reed – 24 March 2016

Congratulations to all involved in this year’s musical The Addams Family. What an outstanding success! I never cease to be amazed by the talent of our students and their ability to entertain and captivate their audience. It comes together after months of learning lines, practising songs, making props and costumes, choreographing dance routines and hours of rehearsal. The characters came alive on stage as we got to know the members of the Addams family and their friends and shared in their humorous antics. Super effort everyone. Well done!

As our 90th year unfolds and we explore our history, it confirms our belief that St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School is an exceptional place for learning and growing. Our students arrive as young wide eyed three year olds and leave as confident and mature young adults ready to tackle the challenges of the world. Our school photos are constant reminders of our past and the wonderful friendships we form over many years. Recently a whole school photo was taken to commemorate our 90th year which has been sent home to all families this week. If you do not wish to keep the photo please return it in its original container and condition with the signed letter to SMS Main Reception or BGS Reception. If you wish to keep the photo a cost of $52.00 will be added to your school account. Thank you.

On Wednesday morning a group of 45 excited Years 10 and 11 SMS and BGS students and their teachers travelled to Europe. Together they will spend the first few days in Paris before dividing into two groups. One group will spend time in France and Geneva and the second group will enjoy Paris and London with a focus on Language, Humanities, Creative Arts, Performing Arts and Science. Their itineraries are filled with visits to historical sites and notable places of interest and I have no doubt they will return home with stories and photos to share. This is a valuable and memorable experience for the students and we certainly appreciate the time and care provided to the students by their teachers and the care and support they continue to give each other during their time away.

A big thank you to our students, families and staff for working together to ensure a successful and productive Term one. I wish all families a very happy, safe and restful holiday and I look forward to seeing the students back at school on Tuesday 12 April.
