PERFORMING ARTS

It has been a fantastic start to the year with many Performing Arts programs within the school up and running. This year our Drama teacher, Ms Loren Giorgetta is the director of the school play, Man the Balloon and an increased interest from the boys has seen many Year 8 to 12 students selected for various roles. Rehearsals have begun every Monday afterschool and the performances will be held next term, Friday 12 and Saturday 13 May.

Instrumental lessons have also commenced and all boys will have received their timetable for the term. We have had many new enrolments and currently approximately 80 boys undertake weekly lessons on various instruments such as: violin, piano, voice and trombone, just to name a few.

Our Performance Ensembles have also commenced and this year two new ensembles have been formed: The Junior Guitar Ensemble, Monday lunchtime (VCE Music students Dylan Girotto and Connor Boothman directing the group) and a Brass Ensemble, Thursday lunchtimes.

Singing is an activity that we can all be involved in! Berwick Blokes are busily preparing for Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Assembly and the Vocal Ensemble rehearses Tuesday afterschool 3.10 pm to 4.00 pm. New members are always welcome.

SIS Performing Arts Concert is held in the last week of term, Tuesday 28 March. Boys have been selected from the Junior and Senior Concert Bands and Vocal Ensemble to participate in three rehearsal days, culminating in a concert at the Drum Theatre, Dandenong. This is a great opportunity for the boys to play in larger ensembles and meet musicians from other schools. The Saxophone Ensemble has been chosen to represent Berwick Grammar School at the Concert and the Senior Guitar Ensemble will be providing music in the foyer before the concert.
