Matthew Merrilees Takes to the Sky!

During our period of learning remotely, Year 11 student Matthew Merrilees made excellent use of his extra time, completing his flight testing to ensure he received his Recreational Pilots license!

Matthew is an extremely hard worker in all fields of endeavour – notably his studies as well as his many sporting accolades.  He showed the same diligence and resilience in this process, which was delayed by bad weather over recent weekends as well as the COVID19 pandemic.

In order to receive his RPL Matt completed his 25 hours flight time comprising 20 hours dual and five hours solo, he passed an aeronautical exam and passed his flight test.  This involved taking extra classes over his school holidays.

Matthew can now fly people whenever he likes, with distance and weight restrictions.  This weekend, he flew to Yarram, his longest solo flight yet.

He now moves on to starting his Private Pilot’s license. He also gains credits towards his VCE for all of the work he has completed so far!
