Masters Recital

The fourth annual Masters Recital was held at St Margaret’s on Friday 13 June. Twelve students from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School were selected by an external panel from a field of 27 students who are 7th Grade or above on their instrument. In addition to the solo performances, the A Cappella Choir and VSPA String Orchestra also entertained the audience.

There was a strong feeling that the 2014 Masters Recital was of the highest standard yet. This event is fast becoming the prestigious performance that was intended and the performers take their participation in it very seriously.

The performers for 2014 were pianists Laetitia Nguyen, Sophie Li, Patrick Calder, David Smith, George Smith, Jessica Li, Brienne Gawler (oboe), Sarah Garnish (clarinet), Caitlin Borthwick (trombone), Alexandra Tan (cello) and singers, Tianna Ismail and Brianna Marsh.

Each year a $500 award, kindly donated by Gippsland and Mountain Districts Assessing is given to the Master Musician for the evening and their name is displayed on
the Honour Board in the Heriot McManus
Music School. This is determined by a
group of three silent judges who are unknown to each other. Their points for
each performance are combined to find
the Master Musician. The Master Musician for 2014 was clarinettist, Sarah Garnish.
