Junior Sporting Achievements

SSV Southern Metropolitan Regional Swimming Carnival
Eight competitors progressed to the Regional stage of competition in the SSV Swimming carnival series that ran in Term 1. Relay teams from SMS Junior School and BGS qualified for this highly competitive event following successive first place finishes at the preceding District and Divisional carnivals. Staff and students eagerly boarded the bus to MSAC on 24 March, the last day of Term 1, in the knowledge that progressing to the State finals would be exceptionally difficult with a large portion of the best swimmers in Victoria historically emanating from our region. After a few warm-up laps and practise dives the relay events were called for marshalling. Through some strong individual performances the girls team placed a creditable 9th and the boys team 8th in the Region, a wonderful achievement against incredibly strong opposition.

SSV Berwick District Lighting Premiership
Year 6 students from SMS and Year 5 and 6 BGS students joined forces on Monday 21 March to compete in a sport of their choice in the SSV Berwick District Summer Lightning Premiership. Our focus on these days is always on enjoyment and participation with many students competing in a specific sport for the first time. By all accounts both students and staff enjoyed a wonderful day of camaraderie and teamwork with strong performances in all sports. Special mention should be made of the girls teeball team and both boys and girls tennis teams who won their respective carnivals and progress to another stage of competition.
