Illuminate Next Gen Challenge – Day 1

The first day of the Illuminate Next Gen Challenge was both thought-provoking and inspiring.

Boys and girls in Year 10 were challenged this morning to combine their social conscience and business savvy to come up with a money-making scheme that addresses a genuine issue in a new and innovative way.

Working in mixed-gender teams, students explored issues of interest such as litter, bushfire readiness, men’s mental health, homelessness and more.  Then they were tasked with designing genuine, sustainable action – both in the short term and in the long term.

In the afternoon session, students presented to program staff and their peers, and refined their ideas through feedback suggesting they define problems more thoroughly, think bigger and differentiate their ideas more from existing endeavours.

I have no doubt students will be highly engaged over the next three days as they work to refine their collective visions and make them a reality.
