Head of Campus Update – 25 July 2016

After a much needed break everyone (staff and students) returned at the start of the semester ready to jump right into Term 3. The first day back saw our Year 5 girls (and BGS boys) arrive at school ready to embark on their journey back in time. They headed off to a very cold (snow-surrounded!!) Ballarat to spend 3 days/2nights at Sovereign Hill. As well as attending the costume school and experiencing life as a student on the goldfields in the 1850s, our very lucky Year 5 students also enjoyed the special Christmas in July activities including fake snow and colourful light displays.

But no doubt the highlight of our first 2 weeks back was our special 90th celebration day in Junior School. We planned this for Wednesday 20 July as that was the 90th school day of our School’s 90th anniversary year so it was a very significant date. To help make this day even more special we combined it with our Grandparents Day and a more lovely morning could not have been had . . . . . grandparents/special friends engaging with students in a variety of activities in classrooms around the Junior School (ELC – Year 6), visiting the school archive display and the book fair.  This was followed by an extra special Junior School assembly which was enjoyed by a ‘full house’ in the auditorium. Our relatively new Year 3/4 Andante String ensemble performed publically for the first time  – not that anyone would’ve known it was their first ever performance as they were brilliant!! We took a walk down memory lane and enjoyed photos and information of our School’s history, sang Happy Birthday, awarded our Class Achiever certificates, but the real highlight was a video of student reflections about their grandparents.

After assembly our grandparents and special friends enjoyed a lovely morning tea before heading home with many wonderful memories of a special morning.
