Head of Campus update – 24 March 2016

Term 1 has passed us by so suddenly. If one reflects back on all that has been achieved in such a relatively short space of time you have to be proud of the staff, students and parent community for their support and commitment to all of our programs. Whether on camp, representing the School in SIS sport competitions or SIS music’s The Big Night, touring their grandparents and special friends, volunteering their time at our recent Open Day or on stage performing The Addams Family, our boys have done it all. It is because of this, that we at BGS form such a unique and special community. Working tirelessly together to provide our boys with the best education and plenty of opportunities in which to challenge themselves.

At the recent assembly we were fortunate to have Mr Brian Paynter, State Member for Bass and active ambassador for the White Ribbon Foundation talk to our boys. Mr Paynter is committed to improving the lives of young people by raising awareness of youth mental health and suicide, improving education and job opportunities and helping to provide a better start to life for young people in our region. In his address to the boys, he emphasised the importance of society developing a supportive and constructive culture based on equality. The boys were challenged to show leadership and take responsibility for their own actions and those around them, to stand up and make a difference when it comes to men’s violence against women.

I would like to extend my thanks to the Foundation for supporting the Cricket Big Bash again this year. A pleasant evening where the cricket skills of our community were put to the test. Teams from around the world battled it out for the championship. The inevitable thirst and appetite of our cricketers were suitably satisfied by a refreshing sausage sizzle at the conclusion of the Big Bash.

I would like to wish you all a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Happy Easter, enjoy your time together as a family and I look forward to your safe return for the start of Term 2.
