Head of Campus Update – 19 October 2017

We were very happy to receive the news over the school holidays that our beloved Maths teacher Brigid Alexander had safely delivered her baby. Harry was born on 26 September weighing in at 8lb 15oz. Congratulations to Brigid and her husband James.

The end of term 3 saw a number of student led assemblies. These included a Middle School assembly and an Upper School assembly (both organised by students in Gipson House) and House Extravaganza (organised by the House Captains). I am always impressed by the girls’ ability to organise and speak at assembly and feel lucky that we can entrust this difficult role to our students.

As part of International Day of the Girl, ABC launched a new comedy drama last week called Mustangs FC. The 13 part series is about girls who abandon the sidelines and start their football club’s first all-girls team. We are very proud of Natasha Pearson (Year 10) who has a role in this series. You can see Natasha and the rest of the team on ABC at 5pm Monday nights or watch catch up episodes on iview. Congratulations Natasha.

This week we enjoyed the official opening of the VCE Art Exhibition. It was wonderful to have past student Lucy Tolan back to open the exhibition. The exhibition will be open until Friday 20 October and I encourage students, staff, parents and friends to drop into the Art Gallery to view the amazing artworks created by our talented students

Last Sunday a large group of St Margaret’s students and teachers participated in the Melbourne Marathon. Food Tech assistant Denyse Bencraft and Year 12 students Alice Vonic and Taylah Jeffs ran the 21.5km half marathon.  We also had a number of students who volunteered to assist at the 39km checkpoint. The girls were unbelievable in terms of the support they gave to the runners, many of whom were exhausted and fading at that stage of the race.  We can be very proud of the girls. Their efforts raised a huge amount of money for the James McCready Foundation

It is hard to believe but the Year 12 students are on the final  countdown to the end of their school year. Their last day is this Friday 20 October and we look forward to enjoying special events with the students including a staff and Year 12 student luncheon (20 October), Valedictory Dinner (23 October ) and Speech Night (25 October). Tickets for Speech Night are now available on the Trybooking space on the school website. Places are limited so order you tickets to avoid disappointment.
