Haircuts for Alopecia

During this week’s assembly, Year 7 students Brydie Mitchell and Keira Vukovic-Smith and I, had 30 centimeters of our hair cut to donate to the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation. We have chosen to support this foundation as one of my close family friends suffers from alopecia and her journey has inspired us to donate our hair to create wigs for those suffering from alopecia.

Alopecia is a type of hair loss that is an autoimmune disease, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles, which causes hair to fall out sometimes in clumps. Although the hair follicles are not damaged, the growth of the hair may be slowed and bald patches may occur. Alopecia can affect both men, women or children.

I would like to thank my parents, as well to Brydie and Keira for joining me on my journey to help fundraise for this worthy cause and to all those who donated; parents, family, friends and colleagues, we have raised an amazing $5,865 to donate to the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation and we are hoping to raise even more!
