From the Head of Senior Girls Wellbeing – 11 December 2019

’When you want to succeed as badly as you want to breathe then you will be successful” – Eric Thomas

Success means caring. You have to care more than anyone else does. When we pursue something that means more to us than anything, we will care more than most others do. The people who do share common beliefs with us will appear at the right time to assist in the right way.

We are often told, ‘there is nothing you can’t do if you really want to.’

Our students are encouraged to care about learning with the exact same passion. Learning is personal to each one of us. As lifelong learners, we decide what, when, and how we learn. During the school year, our staff work hard to instill a desire to learn, in our students. If this desire can be maintained during the summer break, then our children become unstoppable.

Such a break offers unstructured learning by allowing the body to slow down, re-energize and increases our awareness of our surroundings through sensory perception.

Children should be encouraged to appreciate the growth and learning, which comes from the simple things in life, writing a letter, baking, learning to play chess or planting a vegetable garden. Learning does not end at the school gate but continues with the awareness that comes through the sense of touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing.

When young people care enough about the world in which they live, they will endeavor to learn more, which will make success more attainable. Success will be hard, it will be exhausting, and sometimes it will be lonely, but it will be worth it. If you want it bad enough, you will never give up, though the worst goes before you.

I hope that each of our girls experiences the success that comes with continued learning, be it within and outside of the classroom.

Finally, as the end of the school year approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to say ‘Thank you’, to the St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar community for your continued support throughout 2019. Wishing you all a Christmas filled with peace, love, laughter and endless opportunities to learn and grow.
