EVATT – Model United Nations Security Council

On Saturday 12 August, BGS participated in the Evatt Model United Nations Security Council diplomacy competition. This competition aims to educate young Australians about their place in the world, and empower them to become active citizens by developing their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, teamwork, research and public speaking. Those involved participate in a mock session of the United Nations Security Council, with students debating and voting on a prepared resolution from the perspective of their assigned nation.

Kaelan Dekker and Oliver Ward, who represented the United States of America, debated resolutions regarding freedom of navigation, state sanctioned espionage, and interference by states in the electoral processes of other nations.

These young diplomats performed admirably on the day, showing depth of research, passion, enthusiasm and confidence. We congratulate them on their efforts and wish them luck in advancing to the next round of this competition.
