Enrichment

The Enrichment Program has been in full swing at Berwick Grammar School this month. We participated in the Rotary Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA), the VCAA Plain English Speaking Awards (PESA), Debaters Association of Victoria’s Junior Public Speaking, Year 9/10 Da Vinci Decathlon, and the Bond University High School Mooting competition.

MUNA saw five of our students engaged in a simulated United Nations, where they actively discussed, debated and voted on resolutions. This closely mirrored the real life workings of the UN General Assembly and provided a valuable opportunity for these boys to enhance their public speaking practice while developing their understanding of complex mechanics of international relations.

PESA is one of the most prestigious public speaking awards in Victoria and our boys came in third and fourth place. This was an outstanding result.

In the Junior Public Speaking competition our boys left with above average speaking scores, delivering some highly persuasive speeches on the day.

The Da Vinci Decathlon saw students compete against elite schools in a range of academic fields. We performed quite well, particularly in the English discipline.

Mooting involves students presenting legal cases in a simulated court setting, where one of our boys (Kash Gaitley, Year 11) received a special commendation for being a highly skilled Orator.

We look forward to many more Enrichment successes throughout 2016.
