DAV Debating Round 2

St Margaret’s experienced great success in Round 2 of the DAV Debating competition with seven wins and four best speakers. Our D Grade debaters can be very proud of their efforts as they grappled with the topic of whether we should ban children from competing in professional sport. Each team won their debate and best speaker was awarded to Year 9 students Emily Ferdinands, Alisa Johnson and Bailey Speirs as well as Year 8 student Keshavi Perera. Our B and C Grade teams were also victorious in their debates. Our A Grade team narrowly lost their debate by 1 point, but should be congratulated on putting forward a strong case for why we should not abolish the ATAR system of university entrance. As we head into Round 3 on Thursday May 25, our A, B and C Grade debaters will tackle the challenges of a Secret Topic debate. This means that they will find out their topic on the night with only an hour for the team to prepare their side. We wish them all the best and welcome family and friends to come and support the girls on the night.
