Coast to Cape Challenge

During the BGS’s Year 11 Coast to Cape Challenge based out of the Bellarine Peninsula our students displayed enthusiasm, energy, commitment and resolve to support each other as they undertake the final 12 months of their secondary education.

The week included opportunities for students to develop their independent living skills, time management skills, set personal short term goals, challenge themselves to early morning exercise, visit professional sporting organisation the AFL Geelong Cats, explore tertiary education options at Deakin University, zipline at great heights through the Otway Ranges and to relax and unwind at the end of a busy week at Adventure Water Park.

By far the highlight of the week was our time with Glenn Manton; former AFL footballer, author and media personality.  The boys described him as inspirational, captivating, motivating and above all ‘raw’. He challenged the boys to be authentic and real.

“I think Glenn’s honesty, integrity, humbleness and even gratitude was amazing. This session had a major impact on myself as a young man and the way I perceive the world.” Year 11 student.

At dinner on our last night Dr Middleton welcomed and congratulated the boys on entering the Year 12 class of 2020 and spoke with them about discipline, connection and teamwork. He set the task to lift each other up and hold each other there for the year ahead.  That the year will be full of challenges and that with discipline and the commitment to each other they can and will succeed.
