Chess Club

The Berwick Grammar Chess Club has commenced for Term 1 and will be operating throughout 2019. Enrichment Team Leader and Berwick Grammar School Chess Captain, Kurt Caddy, has kindly volunteered his time to planning and running this valuable Club, which provides an opportunity for students to learn to play (or master) this complex activity.

Chess is a uniquely challenging game, requiring participants to stretch the limits of their thinking and problem solving ability. Players need to think two, three, or even more moves ahead- while remaining reactive to what the other player does.

The Chess Club provides a healthy outlet for students to socialise with like-minded peers during the week, and allows us an opportunity to select our best and brightest players to participate in competitions throughout the year.

Kurt will be running various skills sessions, as well as informal ones where students can play under less competitive circumstances. He is to be thanked for dedication, effort and enthusiasm that he put into fulfilling this role last year. We look forward to seeing the Club grow under his watchful eye.

If any students who have not already done so are still interested in signing up, please forward an expression of interest to Mr Sean Pieper (piepers@berwickgrammar.vic.edu.au). Any questions about the program are also welcome.
