Boys Get Involved in The Great Book Swap

Real Boys Read – and with holidays coming up, a week focused on Reading gave the men of Berwick Grammar School a chance to think about their holiday reading.

On Wednesday of the final week of term, the BGS Library was the place to be – because that was where we held The Great Book Swap.  This initiative invites boys to bring in a book they no longer need and donate a gold coin to swap it with a book brought in by another boy.

Money raised goes to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, an organization that functions Australia-wide to reduce the disadvantage experienced by children in remote Indigenous communities, by lifting literacy levels and instilling a lifelong love of reading.  A cause close to our hearts!

Over $30 of swapping occurred on the day and the opportunity is still open to swap to boys who were absent on camp.

It was wonderful to see boys talk to each other about books – with boys across Years 7 – 12 attending and swapping.  Many picked up books outside their comfort zone!
