BGS Students Do Us Proud at SIS Lawn Bowls

Twelve BGS students from Year 8 and 9 travelled to Carrum Bowling club on Thursday to compete in the annual SIS Lawn Bowls Championship. It was the first time that we have entered teams in this competition, but the lack of experience from our players was not evident, as all three teams competed extremely well. With our B and C grade teams narrowly missing the Semi Finals, it was up to was up to our A grade team consisting of Declan Coleman, Jake Giddins, Amir Ali and Brian Lam to fly the flag for BGS at the next round.

With the best of 5 “ends” deciding the eventual grand finalists, our boys were braving the rain and high winds to be tied at 2-2 against their opponent Balcombe Grammar.

Unfortunately it didn’t go their way in the end losing 3-2, there was no shame in narrowly losing to the eventual A grade champions and a great effort by our boys.

In the individual consolation round Riley Hawke progressed to the final round and finished in 2nd place overall, a fantastic effort for another one of our first time bowlers. A great experience was had by all bowlers, who have vowed to return next year and hope to go one step better and bring home some silverware!
