Australian Brain Bee Challenge

The Australian Brain Bee Challenge is a Neuroscience competition run by The Australasian Neuroscience Society and is organised in Victoria in partnership between Monash University and Melbourne University. On the first day or Term 3, four of our Year 10 students made it through to Round 2 of the competition, Oliver Ward, Max Walton Briggs, Riley Kilpatrick and Max McCahy. For the second round of the competition the students competed in an individual challenge and a team challenge. Unfortunately, our boys did not make it through to the finals for this round.

Other highlights of the day were hearing from those in the forefront of Neuroscience including, Dr Holly Chinnery, who discussed her work on Optometry and Vision and how it relates to Neuroscience. We were also fortunate to have a tour of the neuroscience laboratories of Melbourne University’s Florey Institute, where we saw research into brain circuits and spoke to many PhD students about their research.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed this rich learning experience and were encourage to pursue their interest in a career in STEM.
