St Margaret’s School has a proud history in the sport of equestrian and has always been fierce competition with riders representing St Margaret’s at both State and National levels.
In the current era St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School continue to foster the talents of young horse riders in several ways. These include a variety of Equestrian Team events run through the Inter School Sport Program, Vocational Education and Training courses (VET) in Horsemanship and the Annual St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar School Inter-school Equestrian Event. With great success over the years the students from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar combine and compete together with their horses to represent the school in teams as well as being recognised as individual riders in their own right. All events and activities are open to students throughout the Junior and Senior schools.
Clinics are designed to expose riders and horses to different and varied instructors and to come together as a team and get to know the other riders from all year levels. Training clinics are usually held during the School holidays and are fully funded by The Friends of Equestrian.
Competitions and Recent Success
St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School support rider participation in many Equestrian Australia (EA) Affiliated events throughout the year. Some of these events include the Barastoc Horse of the Year, Victorian Interschool Equestrian Championships, Tintern Interschool Horse Trials. Interschool Showjumping Series (ISJ) and Interschool Dressage Series (ISD), The Victorian Interschool 3 Day Event (Fundraiser 3DE) and the Annual St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School Interschool event held during Term 2. The School is affiliated with both Equestrian Australia (EA) and the Victorian Interschool Equestrian Network.
Over the years we have been very successful in team events. Almost always the team result is from a culmination of great individual scores.
St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar are continually developing and expanding the Equestrian program. The Friends of Equestrian Committee work together with the School to ensure the needs of our very talented young riders are fully met. The major event of the Equestrian calendar is our own Interschool event. This is coordinated by the Friends of Equestrian committee with the help of students, parents, friends and staff the event has been a great success for over a decade. Committee meetings are held throughout the year all parents are welcome. Student meetings are held during term time.
