About St Margaret's

Equestrian

St Margaret's has a fine history in Equestrian going back to the early days when students rode their horses to and from school. St Margaret's fosters the talents of young horse riders in several ways; one being the Equestrian Team events run through the Inter School Sport Program, another through Vocational Education and Training courses in Horsemanship and thirdly the St Margaret's Inter-school Equestrian Event. St Margaret's has had great success over the years placing very highly in all competitions.

St Margaret's offers riders the chance to participate in several events throughout the year. In Term 1 students compete in the Barastoc Show Jumping and the EFA Interschool Challenge which involves riders from all over Victoria. This competition involves selecting four out of seven disciplines; girls participate in teams of four and are also recognised as individual riders in their own right. In Term 2 the girls participate in the Tintern Interschool Horse Trials and the Toorak Dressage day. Term 4 is also packed with activity. The Primary Interschool Equestrian Challenge is conducted catering specifically for the Primary aged children which include some led classes. With the help of their parents, team managers and trials and training sessions in their disciplines, the girls are well prepared for the high standard of competition.

St Margaret's is continually developing and expanding the Equestrian program and Friends of Equestrian group has been established to ensure the needs of our very talented young riders are met. The major event of the Equestrian calendar is St Margaret's own Interschool event. This is co-coordinated by the Friends of Equestrian committee and with the help of students, parents, friends and staff the event has been and will continue to be a great success.

Equestrian Committee meetings are held every month on the second Thursday at 9am in the Senior School Reception Room. All interested parents are welcome.
