Our students in the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) and Cycling Squad have been actively involved in the Victorian Schools Mountain Bike Championship over the last month. Round 2 was held at Lysterfield at the end of July and the squad had 14 riders compete. The squad came away with 6 medals (3 gold and 3 bronze) and 9 placings in the top 50% of the categories entered!
Representing BGS, Thomas Fenner (Year 8) rode a strong race to finish first in his category and receive a Gold Medal. Lachlan Webb (Year 9) and Max Blackwood (Year 12) claimed Bronze medals in their respective categories. Other results for BGS included
Alistair Holloway (JM13N) 26th
Even Johnson (JM15N) 12th

Round 3 of the Series was held at the You Yangs Sunday 20 August. SMS/BGS had 12 students compete in the event under beautiful blue skies.
Our riders rode fast on the flowing mountain bike course and came away with 7 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and a bronze)
Thomas Fenner came from mid pack after a poor start to claim a gold medal in his race, with Jody Graziano (Year 8) competing in his first competitive Mountain Bike event, placing 12th out of 28 riders. Lachlan Webb hung on to a bronze medal position in his race, with Lachlan McPhee (Year 9) charging home in 4th place. In his final year of riding for SMS/BGS, Max Blackwood rode a thrilling race. He took the lead in the final stages of the final lap and stormed home finishing in first place to earn himself a gold medal. Other BGS results included:
River Dixon (JM17N) 13th
Max Walton-Briggs (JM17N) 15th
All our boys are to be congratulated on their excellent results. The squad’s attention now turns to the Road Cycling events, which commence Friday 25 August.
