SMS has a strong and unique historical link to the many St Margaret's and Queen Margaret Schools (QMSSA), which exist globally around the world in UK, NZ, Scotland and Chile. Students have the opportunity to learn more about the Queen Margaret traditions through exchange programs and international tours.

Exchange Programs
The SMS exchange program continues to grow, with Year 9 students given the opportunity to travel for six weeks to St Margaret's College, Christchurch, New Zealand and Queen Margaret College, Wellington, New Zealand. Year 10 students can be part of an exchange program to Queen Margaret's School in York, UK, for almost two months as well as spending a white Christmas in Aberdeen, Scotland for four weeks. More recently, the Chile exchange has been estabished for Year 10 students who visit for four weeks in February. Likewise, SMS in Berwick regularly hosts students from these schools. The process of exchange serves to enhance the connections formed between QMSGSA schools, as individuals become part of the life and culture of their sister schools.

International Tours
There are exciting opportunities for SMS students to travel abroad with a school group as part of an international tour. Sporting, music, cultural and linguistic tours have, in recent years, included countries such as Great Britain, France and Noumea. Such tours enable students to broaden their knowledge and experience within the supportive context of a school group.
